CBS Sports fantasy football is offered in both free and paid versions. The free version is open to everyone, and is a great option for those that have not played fantasy football before. Since there is no investment, beginners can use this format to learn how the game works, and to develop strategies.

Paid levels include: Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Double Diamond. The amount of prize money increases with each level. The entry fee does as well. Each of these leagues are hosted by CBS Sports fantasy football, and all drafting, lineup submissions, live scoring, and other functions will take place directly on their site. Entry fees for the pay leagues start as low as $39.99, and go as high as $499.99.

For those that wish to customize and run their own league, Football Commissioner is offered. A one time fee of $179.99 will cover an entire season of playing online. This option is perfect for those that already have enough players to create a league of their own, and simply need a online host for drafting, scoring, and tracking.

There is the option to set up a private league within each of tiers, or to simply join a public league. Public leagues are open to anyone, and there are no guarantees as to who will be in a public league with you. Private leagues are similar to Football Commissioner, except for the fact that they function by specific rules set forth by CBS Sports fantasy football, where Commissioner leagues are totally customizable.

Each league will consist of a total of 12 teams. Each week, players will face off against one of the teams in the league. The win/loss record of each team will determine where they rank in the standings. The four best teams at the end of the 14 week season will advance to the playoffs. Since the 12 teams are broken down into three divisions, all three division winners will advance. The fourth team will be the non-division winner that has the best record.

With so many options available, it is no secret why so many people now choose CBS Sports fantasy football. From novice to expert, there is something for everyone that wishes to experience the thrill of what this game has to offer. Additionally, every bit of information that you need to know about setting your weekly lineup is conveniently located on the CBS Sports website.

Do you want to know the latest fantasy player rankings for your favorite game, fantasy NFL?

Let me give you a rundown of the latest developments in the NFL. These real life situations will definitely affect your fantasy player rankings so it is best to be in the know.

Your team’s winning depends a lot on good research, so your best bet is to read on your fantasy player rankings and watch real time NFL.

First off, let’s take a look at Joseph Addai of Indianapolis, a running back player. He is back in active duty this Friday and is fully participating in the game over the Steelers. What impact does this have? Well, he is entrusted to face off eight of the stingy Steelers’ defensive line in their play.

Then, there is Calvin Johnson, the wide receiver playing for Detroit Lions.

He has been getting limited practice and is doubted as a contributor for the Detriot Lions’ game versus the Giants. The impact for fantasy player rankings seem positive as Johnson is seen playing with his left and right arm and is able to catch passes with both. He may be an asset to the Detriot Lions.

Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback for Green Bay Packers. According to his football coach Mike McCarthy, he is a quarterback who is ready to play, so, Aaron in your team can be a good thing. Rodgers is one of those elite American football fantasy players.

Is Michael Dwayne Vick, a football quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, part of you fantasy team and you want to know how he’s gonna affect your fantasy player rankings? Well, Vick was in attendance for the Philadelphia Eagle’s practice session. This means that he is all suited up and ready to rock ‘n’ roll with the Philadelphia Eagles’ football game against the Falcons. So, if he plays the game, then your fantasy team that includes Michael Dwayne Vick is positive. However, if Vick cannot make it, then the Philadelphia Eagles will have a very difficult hurdle to encounter.

Texas’ pride Jacoby Jones plays for Houston Texans as their American football wide receiver. His coach, in the person of Gary Kubiak, is pretty confident that Jones will be the star in his play against the Chiefs. So, those who have placed Jones in their NFL fantasy football team might deem this as good news and the attitude can help increase the fantasy player rankings for this sportsman. But, is his attitude just hot air or can he really make a dent as the wide recover for Texas and help his team be victorious?

Whoever you choose to play in your fantasy team, always make sure to read about their game so you end up with your ideal fantasy football team and start winning.

2010 NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings: For all the other receivers that were drafted before Williams it could be these very pass catcher that has the best rookie season. I do believe Dez Bryant is primed for very good things but don’t over look this highly talented young receiver. www.fantasy-info.com

2010 QB Keeper Rankings are based on a three year outlook for the 2010, 2011, and 2012 fantasy football seasons. Players age for the 2010 season is listed after their name.

2010 QB Keeper Rankings are established for a standard fantasy football scoring system, with scoring categories and points including:

Passing Yards: 1 point / 20 passing yards

Rushing Yards: 1 point / 10 rushing yards

Receiving Yards: 1 point / 10 receiving yards

Passing Touchdown: 4 points

Rushing/Receiving Touchdown: 6 points

Interceptions: -2 points

Fumbles Lost: -2 points

Rankings Updated: January 13, 2010

1. Aaron Rodgers – GB (26)

Forcing his way up to #1, Aaron Rodgers is by far the youngest QB on this top 10 list, and yet he is tied with Drew Brees as the #1 overall fantasy football QB for the 2009 season through week 14. Surrounded by young offensive talents in Green Bay with the likes of Greg Jennings, Ryan Grant, and Jermichael Finley, as well as the veteran Donald Driver and other young and talented WRs, there is really no reason to doubt that Rodgers will decline much, if at all, for the 2010 season. And while it may seem hard to expect him to play even better in 2010, the reality is that Rodgers could very easily put up even better stats, especially if the Green Bay offensive line can protect him. I mean seriously, if Rodgers can put up outstanding stats this season with an absolutely terrible offensive line that really cannot get much worse next season, then the bottom line is that Aaron Rodgers offers just too much proven talent and potential to be ranked anywhere but #1 on QB keeper lists heading into the 2010 season.

2. Drew Brees – NO (31)

Many may argue that Drew Brees is the #1 QB they would want in 2010 keeper leagues, but I’m not buying. Don’t get me wrong though, Brees is no doubt the ‘safer’ and more proven fantasy QB than Rodgers, but these rankings are about the future and who offers the most potential over the next three years. Overall, even if you do not agree with Brees at this #2 ranking, then I hope you would at least agree that Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers are easily the top 2 QBs for fantasy football keeper leagues heading into the 2010 season.

3. Peyton Manning – Ind (34)

Yes Peyton Manning will be 34 when the 2010 season rolls around, but much like Brett Favre, I feel that Manning could easily play at his outstanding level at least over the next 4 years. And if any QB seemingly has the best opportunity to match Brett Favre and play into his 40s, Peyton Manning seems like that guy.

4. Philip Rivers – SD (28)

Entering the prime of his career, Philip Rivers is by far the leader of the Chargers offense. At just age 28 for the 2010 season, and surrounded by outstanding receiving targets in Antonio Gates and Vincent Jackson, Rivers should be tallying close to 30 touchdowns or more per year over the next several seasons. In terms of overall potential over the next three seasons, I like Rivers over Tom Brady at the #4 ranking and extremely close to overtaking Peyton Manning for the #3 spot.

5. Tom Brady – NE (33)

Coming back from his knee injury this year, Tom Brady just has not been as good as we have become accustomed to over the past several years. A year younger than Peyton Manning, Brady actually seems like he is aging faster. And clearly evident this season, is the fact that the Patriots just don’t seem to have that youth that they had during their Championship runs. Randy Moss is getting up there in age, the offensive line isn’t great, and the Patriots don’t have much of a running game and clearly no elite talented RB waiting in the wings to take over and help out Brady. Still, Tom Brady is Tom Brady, and as long as Randy Moss is on the team, Brady is a very solid fantasy football QB option.

6. Matt Schaub – Hou (29)

If injuries wouldn’t have derailed his first two seasons in Houston, Schaub would easily be in the running for a top 5 spot among fantasy football keeper league QBs. Now finally putting together an injury free season this year and playing in every game so far through week 14, Schaub is a no doubt top 10 keeper league QB heading into the 2010 season. Scoring just 1 point less than Tom Brady in several standard scoring fantasy football leagues through week 14, Schaub could easily overtake Tom Brady in the top 5 after the 2010 season.

7. Tony Romo – Dal (30)

Realistically, this ranking is a toss up between Tony Romo and Ben Roethlisberger. Both have the same type of stat potential, however I give Romo the slight advantage because the Cowboys seemingly have a greater passing offense than the Steelers who are traditionally a run first team, and with Rashard Mendenhall in the picture I do not anticipate that to change anytime soon.

8. Ben Roethlisberger – Pit (28)

Ranking just behind Tony Romo, Roethlisberger is a clear cut above both Eli Manning and Carson Palmer for the #8 spot among keeper league QBs heading into the 2010 season.

9. Eli Manning – NYG (29)

Since entering the NFL back in 2004, Eli Manning has been a better real life quarterback than fantasy football quarterback. While Peyton Manning oozes with big time passing stats, Eli tends to be a game manager who does just enough to win games. Entering the 2009 season, Eli has never thrown more than 24 touchdown passes in a season over his first 5 years. He currently has 23 touchdown passes through 13 games in 2009. Solid yes, but nothing great out of your fantasy football QB.

10. Carson Palmer – Cin (30)

After posting a 32 touchdown pass season in just his third year in the NFL, Carson Palmer has been on an odd path of decline ever since then. However if Cedric Benson sticks with the Bengals and he can continue to play at a high level, defenses may actually give up some passing plays to Palmer in 2010 as they are forced to honor the Bengals running game.

11. Jay Cutler – Chi

12. Joe Flacco – Bal

13. Matt Ryan – Atl

14. Donovan McNabb – Phi

15. Kurt Warner – Ari

16. Matthew Stafford – Det

22. Matt Cassel – KC

23. David Garrard – Jac

24. Kyle Orton – Den

2010 WR Keeper Rankings are based on a 3-year outlook for the 2010, 2011, and 2012 fantasy football seasons. Players age for the 2010 season is listed after their name.

2010 WR Keeper Rankings are established for a standard fantasy football scoring system, with scoring categories and points including:

Passing Yards: 1 point / 20 passing yards

Rushing Yards: 1 point / 10 rushing yards

Receiving Yards: 1 point / 10 receiving yards

Passing Touchdown: 4 points

Rushing/Receiving Touchdown: 6 points

Interceptions: -2 points

Fumbles Lost: -2 points

Rankings Updated: January 13, 2010

1. Larry Fitzgerald – Ari (27)

While the top 3 WRs listed here are all excellent keeper options, Fitzgerald is clearly the #1 choice. Based on his age, ability, health, and proven stats, it seems extremely safe to say that nearly all fantasy football managers in keeper leagues would rank Fitzgerald at #1. However as usual, having Kurt Warner at QB no doubt helps Fitzgerald, but even if Warner wouldn’t be back playing in 2010, I would still want Fitzgerald at my #1 WR keeper.

2. Andre Johnson – Hou (29)

Injuries limited Johnson for a couple of seasons, but after posting a career year in 2008, Johnson has followed that up with another outstanding season in 2009. With an excellent passing QB in Matt Schaub throwing to him, Andre Johnson is primed for at least another three superb seasons. In PPR scoring leagues, Johnson is a no doubt better keeper WR than Calvin Johnson.

3. Calvin Johnson – Det (25)

Offering loads of potential, Calvin Johnson has regressed a bit over the 2009 season after his breakout 2008 campaign. Yet there is tremendous hope for the future, as Matthew Stafford could easily transform into a Pro-Bowl caliber quarterback in the upcoming years. Assuming Stafford progresses and continues to get better as a QB, Johnson and his huge upside is a must rank at #3 among all WRs heading into the 2010 season for keeper leagues.

4. Reggie Wayne – Ind (31)

Wayne is just too proven and reliable not to get this #4 spot. Not to mention he is still in the prime of his career and he has Peyton Manning still throwing to him. If you want a safe sure bet fantasy football WR, Reggie Wayne is the guy you want.

5. Greg Jennings – GB (27)

Jennings edged out this ranking over some of the more popular WR names because of his vast potential. With Aaron Rodgers emerging as one of the premiere QBs in the NFL, the Rodgers to Jennings combo could be lethal for the Packers offense over the next several years, as both players are signed to long term deals.

6. Brandon Marshall – Den (26)

Marshall has posted better stats than Greg Jennings over the past couple of years, but he doesn’t have as good of a QB throwing him the ball, and worse yet is that you never know when his legal problems will pop up. However based on overall potential, I cannot justify ranking Marshall any lower, especially in PPR scoring leagues where Marshall is a near lock for 100 receptions each year.

7. Roddy White – Atl (28)

Finally getting the recognition that many fantasy football managers feel he deserves, Roddy White is clearly a solid top 10 keeper WR heading into the 2010 season. If Matt Ryan continues to progress and get better, Roddy White should continue to be a Pro-Bowl caliber WR over the next several seasons.

8. DeSean Jackson – Phi (23)

Jackson is extremely young at just age 23, and he is just starting to tap into his potential as a potential star WR in the NFL. If you want to rank him higher on this list I can understand why, but for now I’m sticking with the more reliable guys listed above him.

9. Vincent Jackson – SD (27)

Entering the prime of his career at age 27, Jackson should continue to excel into a Pro-Bowl caliber WR during the 2010 season. With a young gun slinging Philip Rivers under center in San Diego, Jackson and his 6-5 height should dominate defense for years to come.

10. Marques Colston – NO (27)

Colston could have easily been #7 on this list over Wes Welker, but with so much offensive talent in New Orleans, especially the emerging Robert Meachem, Colston’s touchdown totals could be limited. Still this is very much speculation, as it assumes the fact that Meachem does continue to emerge and Pierre Thomas becomes a reliable RB who could swipe goal line TDs.

11. Wes Welker – NE (29)

Many may question this ranking, but Welker is entering the prime of his career, and is a much safer and more reliable fantasy football WR than the more popular Randy Moss. If you are in a PPR scoring league, Welker is a must have at this ranking, as he is a near lock to tally around 100 receptions over at least the next three season. However in non-PPR leagues, Welker just doesn’t score enough touchdowns to garner him any higher of a ranking.

12. Randy Moss – NE (33)

I don’t know about you, but I’m over Randy Moss being an elite fantasy football WR heading into the 2010 season. Yes he can still put up 1,200 receiving yards and 8-10 touchdowns, but his age and possible lack of commitment, have me taking a chance on a young WR with a higher upside.

Week 10 – Wavier Wire Pickups. If you are looking for a free agent or waiver wire pickup, here are a couple of the best options likely available in your league. Pickups at every position are posted, including QB – RB – WR – TE – K – D. Each players ownership percentage in 10 team yahoo public leagues is listed after their name.

QB

Mark Sanchez – NYJ = Jac / 37%

Fresh off the bye week, Sanchez and the Jets should be geared up for a likely easy takedown of the Jaguars at home in New York this week. The Jaguars defense ranks as the 7th worst in the NFL against the pass this year, as they have given up an average of 242 passing yards per game so far this season. If you are looking for a QB spot starter, Sanchez is your best bet this week. 200-250 passing yards and 2 touchdowns is very possible.

Alex Smith – SF = Chi / 21%

While I don’t see a Warner’esc 5 touchdown day in sight for Smith this week against the Bears, I do think he is more than capable of putting up 225 passing yards and 1-2 touchdowns against a flailing Bears defense this week.

Matt Cassel – KC = @Oak / 47%

After finding the newly signed Chris Chambers for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns, maybe Chambers is just the extra piece that Cassel needed to keep defenses a tad bit honest, since Dwayne Bowe had routinely been double teamed since week 1. Facing an Oakland secondary that doesn’t offer much except Nnamdi Asomugha shutting down Bowe, could make Chambers fantasy worthy once again this week. 200 passing yards, 1 touchdown.

Vince Young – Ten = Buf / 10%

It’s hard to judge just how good Young is right now, but one thing is certain, and that is he has a QB’s best friend lining up in the backfield with him in Chris Johnson. As long as Johnson is healthy, defenses will focus on Johnson, and allow Young to beat them passing the ball. 150-200 passing yards and 1 touchdown.

Trent Edwards – Buf = @Ten / 21%

Chad Henne – Mia = TB / 11%

RB

Jamaal Charles – KC = @Oak / 45%

Yeah yeah so Charles didn’t do anything exciting last week, but better news for Charles aside from Larry Johnson getting waived, was that Matt Cassel had a passing attack with Chris Chambers in the lineup last week. With defenses having to respect Cassel and the passing attack, the speedy Charles could explode this week against the lowly Raiders defense. Not to mention Charles is a great receiver out of the backfield which gives him extra scoring potential in fantasy leagues. 100-125 total yards, 1 touchdown.

Mike Bell – NO = @StL 41%

With Pierre Thomas healthy again, Bell is once again an afterthought on fantasy football radars. However a matchup against an awful Rams defense should allow Bell to see at least 10 touches this week, and he could easily turn that into 100 total yards and 1 touchdown.

Justin Fargas – Oak = KC / 15%

So the word on the street is that Darren McFadden will return this week, but I’m not buying into that hype. Fargas is the man in Oakland right now, and a matchup against a Kansas City defense that is terrible against the run should be enough for Fargas to earn decent fantasy consideration this week. Combine the fact that the Raiders have virtually no passing game, and Fargas could be looking at 25 plus carries in this game. 100 plus rushing yards and 1-2 touchdowns isn’t far fetched.

Ladell Betts – Was = Den / 11%

With Clinton Portis likely to miss this game because of a concussion, Betts will take over the starting RB role this week. A matchup against Denver’s defense isn’t all that inviting, but after watching Rashard Mendenhall rack up 155 rushing yards on just 22 carries last week, maybe the Denver run defense isn’t as good as they are cracked up to be. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Betts tally 70 rushing yards, 40 receiving yards, and a touchdown possible as well.

Laurence Maroney – NE = @Ind 53%

The running games may not be very active in this game with Tom Brady and Peyton Manning slinging the ball, but if anything, a few spot carries to Maroney could lead to some big holes to run through. As a flex option, Maroney is a very solid play.

WR

Bernard Berrian – Min = Det 68%

Assuming his hamstring injury has cleared up over the bye week, Berrian should be roaring to get going against the Lions secondary this week. 75-100 receiving yards and 1 touchdown is a solid bet.

Mike Wallace – Pit = Cin 40%

Leon Hall and Jonathan Joseph will be covering Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes all day, which will leave Ben Roethlisberger’s new favorite target Mike Wallace getting plenty of looks his way in this game. If the Bengals can shut down Rashard Mendenhall on the ground like they shut down Ray Rice last week, then there is no doubt that Wallace could receive 10 targets in this game. 50-100 receiving yards and 1 touchdown is possible.

Jerricho Cotchery – NYJ = Jac / 73%

With the bye last week to clear up his injuries, Cotchery will likely be at full speed this week. A matchup against a weak Jaguars secondary, and attention likely going to Braylon Edwards, Cotchery could benefit greatly. 75-100 receiving yards and 1 touchdown is possible.

Kelley Washington – Bal = @Cle / 7%

I fully expect a bounce back game from Flacco this week against an awful Browns defense. Washington at just 7% owned is definitely one WR you will want to target if you need wide receiver help even slightly. 75-100 receiving yards and 1 touchdown is possible.

Chris Chambers – KC = @Oak / 24%

With just a practice or two in the books with the Chiefs last week, Chambers immediately gained a starting WR spot and promptly caught 3 passes for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns. And you thought he was over the hill. Facing an Oakland secondary that doesn’t offer much except Nnamdi Asomugha shutting down Bowe, Chambers is definitely deep league fantasy worthy this week. 50-100 receiving yards and 1 touchdown is a realistic bet.

Robert Meachem – NO = @StL / 14%

If he shows up, Meachem could be great in this game. If not, fantasy owners will be looking at the usual 0 or 1 reception for 10 yards. Potential – YES. Reliable – NO.

Pierre Garcon – Ind = NE / 44%

If Austin Collie has to miss this game, Garcon is a great sleeper play this week.

Lee Evans – Buf = @Ten / 69%

TE

Dustin Keller – NYJ = Jac / 46%

If the Jets wouldn’t have had their bye last week, Keller would have likely been scooped up by numerous fantasy teams after his breakout performance in week 8. However with the bye week mixed in, Keller enters week 10 as a hidden gem in over 50% of fantasy leagues waiver wire pools.

Zach Miller – Oak = KC / 52%

The Chiefs defense isn’t anything worth worrying about, and if JaMarcus Russell passes the ball, you can bet he will look to Miller a lot. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Miller tally 5-10 receptions for 50-80 receiving yards and maybe even 1 touchdown in this game.

Joey Haynos – Mia = TB / 0%

In extremely deep leagues, Haynos is actually worth a look at TE. With 2 touchdowns over the past two games, Haynos is quickly taking over Anthony Fasano’s role.

Ben Watson – NE = @Ind 49%

Todd Heap – Bal = @Cle 57%

K

Jay Feely – NYJ = Jac 22%

Steven Hauschka – Bal = @Cle 13%

Matt Prater – Den = @Was 51%

Neil Rackers – Ari = Sea 35%

D

Atlanta = @Car 50%

As long as Jake Delhomme is at QB, any defense who plays Carolina is worth a look in fantasy leagues. Atlanta is no different this week.

Miami = TB 45%

Coming off the bye, Miami is somewhat of an afterthought on fantasy radars. And don’t look too much into Josh Freeman’s 3 touchdown performance last week against Green Bay. The Packers defense is terrible right now, and Miami will definitely put on a lot better showing against Freeman this week.

Oakland = KC 4%

In deep deep leagues, it’s worth a shot to gamble on Oakland forcing Kansas City into some turnovers and sacks.

QB Rankings – Start and Sit QB Rankings – Week 10. QB Rankings are based on the best matchups and highest potential fantasy football point outcomes among all QB for fantasy football teams in Week 10. Use these QB rankings to help you decide which QB to start in Week 10. If you have any comments or questions, you can post in the comment box below the rankings.

Start / Sit – QB Rankings – Week 10

1. Drew Brees – NO = @StL

Anointing Brees as the #1 fantasy QB is a no doubter this week, with a matchup against the lowly St. Louis Rams defense. If the Saints don’t run the ball all day, Brees could be looking at 300-350 passing yards and 3-4 touchdowns.

2. Tom Brady – NE = @Ind

The Colts secondary isn’t terrible, but they are young and fairly inexperienced after losing Bob Sanders and Marlin Jackson for the season. Brady should take full advantage of the rookie DB’s in this game, as it has all the makings of being an offensive shootout. 300-350 passing yards, 3 touchdowns.

3. Peyton Manning – Ind = NE

In a likely shootout with opposing QB Tom Brady, Manning will have a bit tougher of a matchup against the Patriots secondary than what Brady will have against the Colts secondary. Hence the reasoning for Manning getting the #3 ranking at QB this week. Overall, Manning’s stats could resemble Brady’s, only with an interception or two mixed in. 300-350 passing yards, 3 touchdowns.

4. Aaron Rodgers – GB = Dal

Rodgers didn’t have the type of game I expected from him last week, but even with his 3 interceptions, he still managed to throw for 266 passing yards, 2 passing touchdowns, tally 26 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown. All in all, Rodgers just accumulates fantasy football stats period. 250-300 passing yards, 2-3 touchdowns.

5. Kurt Warner – Ari = Sea

While a 5 passing touchdown day isn’t likely again this week, the fact that Warner racked up those stats without Anquan Boldin in the lineup is outstanding news for Warner fantasy owners. Seattle’s secondary isn’t anything special, and even though they intercepted Matthew Stafford 5 times last week, they still let the rookie tally 203 passing yards and 2 touchdowns. I think Warner can do a lot better than that this week against them. 250-300 passing yards, 2-3 touchdowns.

.

6. Philip Rivers – SD = Phi

7. Brett Favre – Min = Det

8. Tony Romo – Dal = @GB

9. Joe Flacco – Bal = @Cle

24. Trent Edwards – Buf = @Ten / SLEEPER

25. Jake Delhomme – Car = Atl

26. JaMarcus Russell – Oak = KC

27. Jason Campbell – Was = Den

28. Marc Bulger – StL = NO

29. Matthew Stafford – Det = @Min

30. Derek Anderson – Cle = Bal

.

31. Brady Quinn – Cle = Bal

32. Ryan Fitzpatrick – Buf = @Ten

33. Pat White – Mia = TB

34. Tarvaris Jackson – Min = Det

With the 2009 fantasy football season about to get under way, here are my top 60 overall quarterback QB rankings to begin the 2009 season. Rankings are based on a normal mixed NFC/AFC one-year redraft fantasy football league, with scoring categories including: passing yards, passing touchdowns, interceptions, rushing/receiving yards, rushing/receiving touchdowns. Each players age for the 2009 season is listed after their name.

BUST = player will register far below last seasons stat totals

BREAKOUT = player has the potential to have a career year in 2009

SLEEPER = player will be a late round pick or go undrafted and has the potential to produce solid fantasy stats in 2009

BOUNCEBACK = player is either returning from injury or is coming off of a down season and has the potential to rebound in 2009

Rankings Updated: June 29, 2009

Quarterback (QB) Rankings – 2009

1. Drew Brees – New Orleans (29)

Entering the prime of his career at age 29, Brees has been one of the most consistent fantasy football quarterbacks over the past five seasons. With a solid offensive core surrounding him, Brees is a clear-cut top 3 fantasy football quarterback option entering the 2009 season.

2008 Stats: 5,069 passing yards, 34 touchdown passes, 17 interceptions

2009 Projections: 4,800 passing yards, 30-35 touchdown passes, 15 interceptions

2. Peyton Manning – Indianapolis (33)

Even after a so-so 2008 campaign, Manning is still a definite top 5 overall fantasy football quarterback option entering the 2009 season. With healthy offensive pieces surrounding him including Reggie Wayne, Joseph Addai, Dallas Clark, Anthony Gonzalez, and rookie running back Donald Brown entering the mix this year, Manning should once again have a stellar season for fantasy football teams in 2009.

2008 Stats: 4,002 passing yards, 27 touchdown passes, 12 interceptions

2009 Projections: 4,000 passing yards, 30 touchdown passes, 10-15 interceptions

3. Tom Brady – New England (32)

As long as Randy Moss, Wes Welker, and a plethora of NFL capable running backs surround Brady, there is no reason why he shouldn’t return to his pre-injury fantasy football status in 2009. Expecting an excellent but not record breaking year seems realistic from Brady during the 2009 season.

2008 Stats: 76 passing yards, 0 touchdown passes, 0 interceptions

2009 Projections: 3,800 passing yards, 30 touchdown passes, 15 interceptions

4. Kurt Warner – Arizona (38)

Warner is back in the Arizona desert and he will have an opportunity to once again be a top fantasy football quarterback in 2009. With Pro-Bowler Larry Fitzgerald, up-and-comer Steve Breaston, and rookie Chris Beanie Wells in the offensive mix for the Cardinals, Warner should once again put up Pro-Bowl caliber stats during the 2009 season. And if Anquan Boldin remains with the team for the 2009 season, Warner could be an MVP candidate even at age 38 this season.

2008 Stats: 4,583 passing yards, 30 touchdown passes, 14 interceptions

2009 Projections: 4,400 passing yards, 30-35 touchdown passes, 15 interceptions

5. Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay (26)

After just one full season as a starting quarterback in the NFL, Rodgers has the makings of being a Pro-Bowl quarterback. Expecting Rodgers to exceed his 2008 stat totals for the 2009 season is very realistic.

2008 Stats: 4,038 passing yards, 28 touchdown passes, 13 interceptions, 207 rushing yards, 4 rushing touchdowns

2009 Projections: 4,000 passing yards, 25-30 touchdown passes, 10-15 interceptions, 200 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns

6. Tony Romo – Dallas (28)

At age 28 to begin the 2009 season, Romo is entering the prime of his career. And the best news for Romo this season, may actually be that he no longer has to worry about forcing the ball to Terrell Owens. With playmakers like Jason Witten, Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Roy Williams surrounding him, Romo should enjoy plenty of success during the 2009 season.

2008 Stats: 3,448 passing yards, 26 touchdown passes, 14 interceptions

2009 Projections: 3,800 passing yards, 25-30 touchdown passes, 12-16 interceptions

7. Donovan McNabb – Philadelphia (32)

After a rough start but extremely strong finish to the 2008 season, everyone is seemingly once again hopping on the McNabb band wagon to begin the 2009 season. Luckily for McNabb and his fantasy football owners alike, the Eagles made it a priority to upgrade the offense as they brought in potential game breaking rookies LeSean McCoy and Jeremy Maclin. McNabb could easily be headed for another Pro-Bowl season in 2009.

2008 Stats: 3,916 passing yards, 23 touchdown passes, 11 interceptions, 147 rushing yards, 2 touchdowns

2009 Projections: 3,800 passing yards, 20-25 touchdown passes, 10-15 interceptions, 200 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns

8. Philip Rivers – San Diego (27)

Entering the 2009 season, Rivers appears to have taken over the Chargers franchise star role from LaDainian Tomlinson. With an increase in stats across the board last season that led Rivers to have the best fantasy football season of his career in 2008, he is definitely worthy of a top 10 overall fantasy football quarterback ranking entering the 2009 season.

2008 Stats: 4,009 passing yards, 34 touchdown passes, 11 interceptions

2009 Projections: 3,800 passing yards, 25 touchdown passes, 10-15 interceptions

9. Jay Cutler – Chicago (26)

Before the trade to the Bears, Cutler would have been worth a top 5 overall fantasy football quarterback ranking. Yet the Bears offense does have a decent amount of offensive playmakers, and it only seems appropriate that Cutler makes them that much better. And let’s not forget that a quarterback’s best friend is the running game, and we all know the Bears can run the ball with Matt Forte. Overall, Cutler should still have a very solid fantasy football year in 2009.

2008 Stats: 4,526 passing yards, 25 touchdown passes, 18 interceptions, 200 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns

2009 Projections: 3,700 passing yards, 18-22 touchdown passes, 14-18 interceptions, 150 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown

10. Matt Schaub – Houston (28) BREAKOUT

If Schaub can put together a full season without getting injured, he clearly has the potential to post Pro-Bowl numbers during the 2009 season. With star playmakers including Andre Johnson, Steve Slaton, Owen Daniels and even the emerging Kevin Walter, Schaub could finally have a breakout and career year in 2009. So don’t sleep on him during your draft.

2008 Stats: 3,043 passing yards, 15 touchdown passes, 10 interceptions, 68 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns

2009 Projections: 4,000 passing yards, 20-30 touchdown passes, 10-15 interceptions

11. Matt Ryan – Atlanta (24) BREAKOUT

12. Carson Palmer – Cincinnati (28) BOUNCEBACK

13. Eli Manning – New York Giants (28)

14. Ben Roethlisberger – Pittsburgh (27)

15. Matt Cassel – Kansas City (27)

16. Matt Hasselbeck – Seattle (34) BOUNCEBACK

17. Kyle Orton – Denver (26)

18. Jake Delhomme – Carolina (34)

19. Jason Campbell – Washington (27)

20. David Garrard – Jacksonville (31)

21. Joe Flacco – Baltimore (24) SLEEPER

22. Trent Edwards – Buffalo (26)

23. Chad Pennington – Miami (33)

24. Brady Quinn – Cleveland (25) SLEEPER

25. Marc Bulger – St. Louis (32)

26. Sage Rosenfels – Minnesota (31) SLEEPER

27. Derek Anderson – Cleveland (26)

28. Shaun Hill – San Francisco (29)

29. JaMarcus Russell – Oakland (24)

30. Kerry Collins – Tennessee (36)

31. Matthew Stafford – Detroit (21) SLEEPER

32. Mark Sanchez – New York Jets (22)

33. Brett Favre – Free Agent (40) BUST

34. Pat White – Miami (23)

35. Byron Leftwich – Tampa Bay (29) SLEEPER

36. Daunte Culpepper – Detroit (32)

37. Vince Young – Tennessee (26)

38. Chris Simms – Denver (29)

39. Kellen Clemens – New York Jets (26) SLEEPER

40. Alex Smith – San Francisco (25) SLEEPER

41. Luke McCown – Tampa Bay (28)

42. Josh Freeman – Tampa Bay (21) SLEEPER

43. Matt Leinart – Arizona (26)

44. Kyle Boller – St. Louis (28)

45. Jeff Garcia – Oakland (39)

46. Tarvaris Jackson – Minnesota (26)

47. Brodie Croyle – Kansas City (26)

48. Brett Ratliff – Cleveland (24) SLEEPER

49. Chad Henne – Miami (24)

50. John David Booty – Minnesota (24)

51. Kevin Kolb – Philadelphia (25)

52. Troy Smith – Baltimore (25)

53. Tyler Thigpen – Kansas City (25)

54. JP Losman – Free Agent (28)

55. David Carr – New York Giants (30)

56. Jon Kitna – Dallas (37)

57. Colt Brennan – Washington (26)

58. Stephen McGee – Dallas (23)

59. Nate Davis – San Francisco (22)

60. Drew Stanton – Detroit (25)

QUESTIONS???

Not sure about my rankings, sleeper, breakout or bust picks for this upcoming season? Check out my 2008 QB rankings, sleepers, breakouts and busts from last year to see how I did.

Complete Look Back at my 2008 QB Rankings & Predictions.

Quick Preview Look Back at my 2008 Predictions:

Worst Predictions:

My worst prediction by far from last season was ranking Carson Palmer at #4. However since it was an injury that did him in, and not just because he played bad, you can’t fault my prediction all that much.

#4 = Carson Palmer – Cincinnati Bengals BREAKOUT

This time last year Palmer was often rated as the second best quarterback behind Peyton Manning. Yet with an explosive team in Cincinnati (both on and off the field), Palmer suffered through most of the 2007 season. However if some of that explosiveness (on the field that is) can return, with the likes of Rudi Johnson, TJ Houshmandzadeh and possibly even the best player of the bunch Chad Johnson, Palmer could once again return to fantasy greatness in 2008.

Best Predictions:

My best overall predictions included five right-on-the-money calls. Philip Rivers and Aaron Rodgers both were breakout players as predicted, Chad Pennington was a great late round sleeper pick, Ben Roethlisberger had a down year as suspected, and David Garrard was indeed a one year wonder.

#13 = Philip Rivers – San Diego Chargers BREAKOUT

Coming back from a torn ACL isn’t easy, but Rivers has definitely shown the fire and drive to succeed at anything. A breakout year may just be in the works.

#17 = Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers BREAKOUT

No Favre, No Problem. Right? Let’s hope so, because Green Bay’s supporting cast should definitely be able to ease the transition for Rodgers. And if not, then Green Bay’s other fantasy stars (Donald Driver, Ryan Grant, Greg Jennings, Donald Lee, and even Mason Crosby) will all see a negative effect on their stats as well.

#35 = Chad Pennington – New York Jets SLEEPER

#6 = Ben Roethlisberger – Pittsburgh Steelers BUST

#16 = David Garrard – Jacksonville Jaguars BUST

Just simply not sure what to think of Garrard yet. He could continue on last years ride or he may just fall apart and be a one year wonder.

It’s hard to believe, but fantasy football is already around the corner again! Fantasy football drafts are already being scheduled and players are anxiously putting together their draft cheat sheets! As you prepare yourself for your 2010 NFL fantasy football draft, you need to be very cautious who you select as your starting quarterback. The quarterback is often the core of your fantasy team and you must not fail yourself in this category or it could be a very long and frustrating fantasy football season! To better help you along as you strive to bring home a fantasy football trophy, here is a ranking of the top 15 quarterbacks for 2010.

1. Drew Brees – New Orleans Saints

Brees wasted no time in giving fantasy owners their money’s worth last year, as he threw for a “measly” SIX touchdowns against the lowly Detroit Lions in week one. He was never able to repeat that feat last year, although, he did have 4- and 5-touchdown performances to add to his highlights in 2009, which isn’t too shabby at all! All of Drew’s weapons are returning and guys like Robert Meachem continue to get more and more dangerous. Oh, and don’t forget to throw in the fact that the Saints are in a division that is severely weak against the pass! Seriously, can you provide a logical explanation as to why Brees will not throw for over 4,200 yards and 30 touchdowns? NO?? Didn’t think so!

2. Aaron Rodgers – Green Bay Packers

Despite a somewhat disappointing performance by the team’s #1 receiver, Greg Jennings, last season, Aaron Rodgers was still able to find a way to produce 30 touchdown passes and nearly 4,500 yards passing. Equally as impressive, he only threw 7 interceptions. Rodgers is clearly one of the most consistent performers, as he had only ONE game in which he did not throw a touchdown pass in the 2009 season. Oh, and he also added over 300 yards rushing, with 5 rushing touchdowns, last year! He’s a keeper, folks!

3. Peyton Manning – Indianapolis Colts

The only thing more dangerous than a sickly talented, all-pro quarterback is a sickly talented, all-pro quarterback that is full of rage! He may not show it, but it is safe to assume that the interception that he threw late in the Super Bowl is driving him crazy! He probably runs that play through his head every day! He is hungry to get back on the field and arguably has the most dangerous receiving group in the NFL, with Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, Pierre Garcon, Austin Collie, and a now-healthy Anthony Gonzalez. In addition, he receives great protection from his offensive line, as he was sacked only 10 times during the regular season last year. Expect another 4,500+ passing yards from Peyton in the 2010 season.

4. Tom Brady – New England Patriots

Some fantasy players may shy away from taking Brady, as they are uncertain of how Wes Welker will return from last year’s ACL injury. It will be unfortunate for Brady and the Patriots if Welker can’t return to his top form, but even so, Brady will still have the services of Randy Moss and newly acquired Torry Holt. Holt is aging, but is still a sound and respectable presence with highly reliable hands. In addition, Julian Edelman revealed that he has Welker-like abilities last season, as was the case in the final game against the Houston Texans, in which he had 10 receptions for 103 yards. Brady surpassed the 300-yard mark on 7 different occasions last season and maintained a highly respectable touchdown-to-interception ratio. If the aforementioned receiving corp. is healthy, Brady should easily repeat that feat.

5. Tony Romo – Dallas Cowboys

Romo put up sensational numbers last season and proved he can finally be relied on during the crucial month of December—he threw for over 1,200 yards with 7 touchdowns and only 1 interception in December of 2009! Dez Bryant should provide some extra options for Romo this season in addition to his already talented cast comprising of Miles Austin and Jason Witten. The only real concern for Romo will be the left tackle position. Flozell Adams is no longer there . . . sure, that means less “false start” penalties for Dallas, but despite his ability to rack up yellow flags, he will still be missed. He showed his true worth in the playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings. After he went out with a calf injury, Jared Allen made mince meat of his replacement, Doug Free. To help resolve this issue, Dallas acquired Alex Barron from the St. Louis Rams during the offseason. Keep tabs on this guy . . . Romo’s fantasy stock could be heavily influenced by how effectively Barron can protect his blind side.

6. Brett Favre – Minnesota Vikings

First off, don’t worry about this guy deciding not to come back. At this point, he’s become very predictable! He is so predictable that his indecisiveness is no longer even talked about on sports shows . . . there is just no need for it, as we all know he will come back! A guy with that much pride would not let his legacy end with a costly interception in a conference championship game! Sidney Rice is an outright stud and Favre should be utilizing his size and talents quite often again. Throw in the return of Percy Harvin, Bernard Berrian, and Visanthe Shiancoe, and Favre will easily put up huge numbers again. The only downfall for Favre is that he no longer has the services of Chester Taylor, who is now a Chicago Bear. Taylor had 44 catches last season . . . can Toby Gerhart step in and mirror that total? Probably not, but nevertheless, Favre will be a solid fantasy play all season.

7. Matt Schaub – Houston Texans

Slowly, but surely, Matt Schaub gains the credit he rightfully deserves. Schaub had 9 games in which he tossed for over 300 yards last season. Throw in 29 touchdown passes and arguably the best receiver in the game right now (Andre Johnson), and you have yourself a rock solid quarterback who can play a vital role in ensuring that you win that fantasy football championship trophy! His total passing yards, yards per attempt, and touchdown passes have increased in each of the last three seasons. Don’t be surprised if this trend continues!

8. Philip Rivers – San Diego Chargers

Rivers found himself on the top 3 of many fantasy quarterback rankings during the 2009 season, but things are considerably different this year. Rivers can get by without L.T., but with Vincent Jackson possibly sitting out the first 10 games of the 2010 season, Rivers immediately loses a couple spots in the rankings! Antonio Gates will continue to be a big and reliable target, but without Jackson, he will have to rely on Malcolm Floyd as the #1 wide receiver on the depth chart. Floyd showed signs of brilliance last season, particularly in his game against the Washington Redskins (9 catches for 140 yards), but that was a “garbage game” and he has not yet proven himself to be considered a consistent threat for Rivers.

9. Matt Ryan – Atlanta Falcons

Ryan suffered from the infamous sophomore jinx, as his total passing yards went down (3440 to 2916) and his total interceptions went up (11 to 14)! On a bright note, though, his touchdown total went up from 16 to 22! Keep in mind, too, that he missed nearly three full games last year and his Pro Bowl running back, Michael Turner, missed nearly 6 full games. If these two guys can stay healthy and keep defenses honest for the 2010 campaign, Ryan should be good for nearly 30 touchdowns. It’s just too early to give up on a guy with Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez catching balls for him!

10. David Garrard – Jacksonville Jaguars

After a reputable 2008 season, many people thought Garrard was in for a huge season in the 2009 season; however, he was not able to build upon his 2008 season (3620 passing yards, 15 TD passes), as his 2009 totals (3597 passing yards, 15 TD passes) ended up being nearly identical to the 2008 totals. It would be nice to see him throw for over 15 touchdowns — if Mike Sims-Walker can improve his maturity level, Garrard may, indeed, increase that number. One saving grace for his lack of touchdown passes is Garrard’s excellent running abilities, which netted him 323 yards with 3 scores.

11. Joe Flacco – Baltimore Ravens

Several fantasy sites and fantasy “experts” refuse to rank Joe Flacco as a top 12 quarterback this season, but don’t believe the hype! (or lack thereof) Aside from his struggles with the Bengals (4 INTs and only 2 TDs in 2 games vs Cincy), Flacco put up very respectable numbers last year. Derrick Mason has been Mr. Reliable for Flacco, but Flacco has been missing a “gamebreaker” type of receiver. He now has that in Anquan Boldin, so his passing yards and touchdowns are sure to increase. And don’t forget Ray Rice . . . he has tremendous hands out of the backfield and has the ability to gain significant yardage on any given down or situation. Another promising sign from last year was that Flacco, during the crucial 4thquarter of the season, only threw 1 interception in the last 4 games, along with 7 touchdowns. On a down note, Flacco’s “bonus rushing” stats for fantasy players has appeared to come to a halt, as he went from 180 yards in 2008 to only 56 yards rushing in 2009; however, his progression in his passing game will surely make up for those lost rushing points! So, assuming Flacco figures out the Cincinnati defense, he should be a very safe and reliable pick for your fantasy team if you choose to wait a little while before selecting your 1ststring quarterback.

12. Carson Palmer

This isn’t the same Carson Palmer that threw for over 4,000 yards in the ’06 and ’07 seasons, but nevertheless, he still puts up quality numbers. Last season, he threw for nearly 3,100 yards and 21 touchdowns. With a better attitude from Chad Ochocinco, and a great new acquisition in Antonio Bryant, Carson will have plenty of big play opportunities in the 2010 season. Unless the troubled Cedric Benson gets himself in too much legal trouble and gets suspended, defenses should play the Bengals very honest this year and allow Palmer to get to the 3,500-yard marker.

13. Jay Cutler – Chicago Bears

It’s hard to put a guy that threw 26 interceptions last year on the top 12, but we’ll do it, anyways! Now that he had a full year under his belt of playing along his new group of receivers, one would have to assume (and hope) that the chemistry will be tighter with his receivers and the interceptions will go down. Also, the possible emergence of Devin Aromashodu could play a vital role in Cutler improving his passing totals. Cutler developed a good click with this guy late in the season last year—22 connections for over 280 yards in the final 4 games. If this click gets even stronger and tighter, Cutler is a good bet to throw for over 30 touchdowns and under 20 interceptions.

14. Kevin Kolb – Philadelphia Eagles

Kolb is certainly a risk, but the Eagles are a team that likes to feature the pass more than most other teams. Kolb has some very dangerous receivers on both ends (DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin) and Brent Celek is rapidly making his way toward the top of the tight-end totem pole. The risk of drafting Kolb onto your fantasy football team might not even be his lack of experience . . . the risk is more likely to be Kolb’s offensive line, which allowed Donovan McNabb to get sacked 35 times last year!

15. Chad Henne – Miami Dolphins

He may have only thrown 12 touchdown passes last season, but give the guy a break, it was his first season as a regular starter! Amassing nearly 3,000 yards passing in 14 games is respectable for a first-year starting quarterback. Oh, and the Dolphins picked up some guy named Brandon Marshall, who had over 100 receptions with 1120 yards and 10 touchdowns (in just 14 games) with KYLE ORTON as his quarterback. If Marshall can attain big numbers with a quarterback like Kyle Orton, then he can put up big numbers with anybody! Henne also no longer has the worries of seeing Ted Ginn, Jr. dropping more passes—he is now a 49er! Henne won’t reach the 30-touchdown mark in the 2010 season, but he will come closer than you think!

Quarterbacks to AVOID:

Donovan McNabb – Washington Redskins

This team is too OLD and/or INJURY-PRONE! Clinton Portis, Joey Galloway, Donovan McNabb, Larry Johnson, and Willie Parker add up to a lot of years and a lot of missed games!

Jason Campbell – Oakland Raiders

Campbell has never proven himself and he is now an Oakland Raider. Enough said!

Matt Leinart – Arizona Cardinals

He’s got nearly 30 games under his belt in his 4-year career, yet still nothing to show. If a guy can’t put up big numbers with Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, then is there really any hope for him? Probably not! Don’t be surprised if Derek Anderson takes over the starting quarterback role in Arizona.

Keep this list handy, folks! Let these quarterback rankings become your fantasy-bible! Study them every night and make yourself sound more intelligent when you debate fantasy sports at the water cooler with your co-workers!

With the 2009 fantasy football season about to get under way, here are my top 100 overall wide receiver WR rankings to begin the 2009 season. Rankings are based on a normal mixed NFC/AFC one-year redraft fantasy football league, with scoring categories including: receptions, receiving yards, rushing yards, return yards, touchdowns.

Rankings Updated: July 25, 2009

Wide Receiver (WR) Rankings – 2009

1. Larry Fitzgerald – Arizona (26)

After establishing himself as one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, Fitzgerald enters the 2009 season as the clear-cut choice as the #1 overall fantasy football wide receiver. With Kurt Warner returning for another season, Fitzgerald should put up another Pro-Bowl year.

2008 Stats: 96 receptions, 1,431 receiving yards, 12 touchdowns

2009 Projections: 100 receptions, 1,500 receiving yards, 10-14 touchdowns

2. Andre Johnson – Houston (28)

Johnson has all the talent and ability needed to be an excellent fantasy football wide receiver, but injuries have always been his downfall during his 6 year career in the NFL. However with a healthy 2008 season under his belt, Johnson may finally be shedding his injury prone label. Assuming this is the case, Johnson is essentially another version of Larry Fitzgerald, and he is definitely worthy of being ranked as the #2 overall fantasy football wide receiver entering the 2009 season.

2008 Stats: 115 receptions, 1,575 receiving yards, 8 touchdowns

2009 Projections: 110-120 receptions, 1,400-1,600 receiving yards, 8-12 touchdowns

3. Randy Moss – New England (32)

Even with Tom Brady out for the entire year last season, Moss still managed to put up 1,008 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. Now with Brady back, Moss should once again be an easy top 10 overall fantasy football wide receiver by the end of the 2009 season. For now, I am ranking Moss as the #3 overall fantasy football wide receiver to begin the 2009 season, mostly because of his touchdown potential.

2008 stats: 69 receptions, 1,008 receiving yards, 11 touchdowns

2009 projections: 90 receptions, 1,300 receiving yards, 12-16 touchdowns

4. Anquan Boldin – Arizona (29)

While other fantasy football rankings have put Boldin on the cusp of just entering the top 10 overall fantasy football wide receiver rankings, I have him firmly placed in the #4 spot among wide receivers. My reasoning; Boldin is entering the prime of his career at age 29, he won’t get double covered as long as Larry Fitzgerald is on the other side, and he has Kurt Warner throwing him the ball. If Boldin can put up 1,038 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns in just 12 games last season, he could easily challenge for 1,400 receiving yards and 12-15 touchdowns in 16 games during the 2009 season.

2008 stats: 89 receptions, 1,038 receiving yards, 11 touchdowns

2009 projections: 100-110 receptions, 1,300-1,400 receiving yards, 10-15 touchdowns

5. Calvin Johnson – Detroit (24)

I realize a lot of people think Calvin is the next big thing and virtually the next Larry Fitzgerald. However until the Lions can assemble a decent offensive line and get a decent quarterback under center, Johnson will remain a risky fantasy football wide receiver who boasts loads of potential. I realize Johnson could put up huge numbers in 2009, but he is anything but a sure bet. So if you want a safer option, I would go with Reggie Wayne, Greg Jennings, Roddy White or even Steve Smith over Calvin Johnson.

2008 Stats: 78 receptions, 1,331 receiving yards, 12 touchdowns

2009 Projections: 80 receptions, 1,200 receiving yards, 8-12 touchdowns

6. Reggie Wayne – Indianapolis (30)

Wayne had a down year last season, but so did the entire Colts offense, as Peyton Manning started the season slow after coming back from off-season surgery, while Joseph Addai and Marvin Harrison both missed several games with injuries. I fully expect a bounce back year from Wayne, as he should once again put up Pro-Bowl caliber stats during the 2009 season.

2008 Stats: 82 receptions, 1,145 receiving yards, 6 touchdowns

2009 Projections: 90-100 receptions, 1,300 receiving yards, 8-10 touchdowns

7. Greg Jennings – Green Bay (26)

With Brett Favre out of town, Jennings actually posted a career year in 2008 while hooking up with Aaron Rodgers for 1,292 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns. With a full year under their belts of working together, the Rodgers to Jennings connection could be lethal for fantasy football teams in 2009.

2008 Stats: 80 receptions, 1,292 receiving yards, 9 touchdowns

2009 Projections: 80-90 receptions, 1,200-1,400 receiving yards, 8-12 touchdowns

8. Roddy White – Atlanta (27)

Coming off of a Pro-Bowl season last year, White enters the 2009 season with extremely high expectations from fantasy football owners. With another year of maturity and a more experienced Matt Ryan throwing him the ball, White could easily add to his numbers from last season. A top 10 overall fantasy football wide receiver ranking is appropriate for Roddy White entering the 2009 season.

2008 Stats: 88 receptions, 1,382 receiving yards, 7 touchdowns

2009 Projections: 90-100 receptions, 1,400-1,500 receiving yards, 8-12 touchdowns

9. Steve Smith – Carolina (30)

At age 30 for the 2009 season, Smith is in the prime of his career and will be looking to put up another solid year for fantasy football teams in 2009. With a healthy Jake Delhomme under center, Smith should hook up with his favorite QB for another 1,000 plus receiving yard season.

2008 Stats: 78 receptions, 1,421 receiving yards, 6 touchdowns

2009 Projections: 85 receptions, 1,200 receiving yards, 8-10 touchdowns

10. Marques Colston – New Orleans (26) BREAKOUT

Injuries derailed Colston’s third consecutive 1,000 yard receiving season in 2008, however a healthy return in 2009 could lead to a monster statistical year with Drew Brees throwing him the ball this season. A career year could be in store for Colston, so be ready to snag him in your draft.

2008 Stats: 47 receptions, 760 receiving yards, 5 touchdowns

2009 Projections: 80-90 receptions, 1,200-1,400 receiving yards, 8-12 touchdowns

11. Brandon Marshall – Denver (25)

12. Dwayne Bowe – Kansas City (25) BREAKOUT

13. Wes Welker – New England (28)

14. TJ Houshmandzadeh – Seattle (32) BOUNCEBACK

15. Vincent Jackson – San Diego (26)

16. Roy Williams – Dallas (27) BOUNCEBACK

17. Santonio Holmes – Pittsburgh (25)

18. Terrell Owens – Buffalo (35) BUST

19. Braylon Edwards – Cleveland (26)

20. Antonio Bryant – Tampa Bay (28) BUST

21. Anthony Gonzalez – Indianapolis (25) BREAKOUT

22. Eddie Royal – Denver (23) BREAKOUT

23. Lee Evans – Buffalo (28)

24. DeSean Jackson – Philadelphia (22)

25. Chad Johnson Ochocinco – Cincinnati (31)

26. Bernard Berrian – Minnesota (28)

27. Hines Ward – Pittsburgh (33)

28. Kevin Walter – Houston (28)

29. Chris Chambers – San Diego (31)

30. Donald Driver – Green Bay (34)

31. Santana Moss – Washington (30) BUST

32. Lance Moore – New Orleans (26)

33. Jerricho Cotchery – New York Jets (27)

37. Laveranues Coles – Cincinnati (31)

38. Derrick Mason – Baltimore (35)

39. Nate Burleson – Seattle (28) BOUNCEBACK

40. Donnie Avery – St. Louis (25)

41. Steve Breaston – Arizona (26)

42. Domenik Hixon – New York Giants (25) SLEEPER

QUESTIONS???

Not sure about my rankings, sleeper, breakout or bust picks for this upcoming season? Check out my 2008 WR rankings, sleepers, breakouts and busts from last year to see how I did.

Complete Look Back at my 2008 WR Rankings & Predictions.

Quick Preview Look Back at my 2008 Predictions:

Worst Predictions:

My worst predictions came via the WR’s who never quite lived up to my expectations for them last season, including Chris Chambers, Donte Stallworth and Deion Branch.

#24 = Chris Chambers – San Diego Chargers BREAKOUT

With a half season under his belt in San Diego, Chambers is the best wide receiving option behind Antonio Gates. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Chambers rediscover his potential that made him a fantasy star with the Dolphins a few seasons ago.

#31 = Donte Stallworth – Cleveland Browns BREAKOUT

If the Browns passing game stays strong like it did in ‘07, then Stallworth makes for a great late wide receiver pick.

#33 = Deion Branch – Seattle Seahawks BREAKOUT

He should easily be the number one wide receiving option in Seattle, and Matt Hasselbeck is no slouch.

Best Predictions:

My overall best player prediction for the entire fantasy football season from last year came from my bust prediction for Plaxico Burress. Other right-on-the-money predictions came from busts Kevin Curtis, Joey Galloway and Javon Walker, while my breakout prediction for Andre Johnson was golden, as was my sleeper pick on Mark Bradley. All in all, some pretty solid predictions for the wide receivers last season.

#12 = Plaxico Burress – New York Giants BUST

#29 = Kevin Curtis – Philadelphia Eagles BUST

#36 = Joey Galloway – Tampa Bay Buccaneers BUST

#27 = Javon Walker – Oakland Raiders BUST

Lets see. Off-field issues, injuries, and JaMarcus Russell throwing him the ball. Doesn’t sound good for Walker and fantasy owners in ‘08.

#5 = Andre Johnson – Houston Texans BREAKOUT

He is one of the youngest and most talented wide receivers in the NFL. If he stays injury free, he could very easily make a leap into the top 3 as a fantasy wide receiver by seasons end.

#61 = Mark Bradley – Chicago Bears SLEEPER

One of the Bears most talented wide receivers will have a great opportunity now that Berrian is gone.

With the 2009 fantasy football season about to get under way, here are my top 80 overall running back RB rankings to begin the 2009 season. Rankings are based on a normal mixed NFC/AFC one-year redraft fantasy football league, with scoring categories including: rushing yards, receiving yards, return yards, touchdowns.

Rankings Updated: July 25, 2009

Running Back (RB) Rankings – 2009

1. Adrian Peterson – Minnesota (24)

Move over LaDainian Tomlinson, Peterson has taken the reigns as the #1 running back in fantasy football entering the 2009 season. Even though Peterson is fairly injury prone, he is still a near lock to tally at least 1,300 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. His week to week dominance can propel fantasy teams to winning their matchup every week.

2008 Stats: 1,760 rushing yards, 10 rushing touchdowns, 125 receiving yards

2009 Projections: 1,600 rushing yards, 14-16 rushing touchdowns, 150 receiving yards

2. Michael Turner – Atlanta (27)

After a breakout and Pro-Bowl season last year, Turner enters the 2009 season as a top 5 overall fantasy football running back. With a solid supporting cast on offense, Turner should have no problem tallying 1,200 plus rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. My only concern with ranking Turner at #2 is his awfully high amount of rushing attempts last season. If his 376 rushing attempts concern you at least a little bit, then I would rank Turner below Matt Forte and Maurice Jones-Drew at the #4 spot. However considering Turner is just age 27 and hasn’t been put through a lot of NFL pounding, I think he should hold up just fine during the 2009 season.

2008 Stats: 1,699 rushing yards, 17 rushing touchdowns, 41 receiving yards

2009 Projections: 1,400 rushing yards, 14-16 rushing touchdowns, 80 receiving yards

3. Matt Forte – Chicago (23)

With a fantastic rookie season under his belt, Forte enters the 2009 season as a top 5 overall fantasy football running back. Combine Jay Cutler to the Bears offense, and there should be plenty of extra running holes for Forte this season. And after taking less pounding than what Michael Turner took during the 2008 season (Forte = 316 carries / Turner = 376 carries), Forte is worthy of being ranked as high as the #2 overall fantasy football running back after Adrian Peterson.

2008 Stats: 1,238 rushing yards, 8 rushing touchdowns, 477 receiving yards, 4 receiving touchdowns

2009 Projections: 1,400 rushing yards, 10-12 rushing touchdowns, 500 receiving yards, 2-4 receiving touchdowns

4. Maurice Jones-Drew – Jacksonville (24)

Finally the number one running back in Jacksonville, Jones-Drew at just age 24, is primed for a breakout and Pro-Bowl year during the 2009 season. With Fred Taylor out of town, Jones-Drew could easily tally 275 rushing attempts and 50 receptions. And best of all, Jones-Drew has proven to be a touchdown machine during his career.

2008 Stats: 824 rushing yards, 12 rushing touchdowns, 565 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns

2009 Projections: 1,100 rushing yards, 10-14 rushing touchdowns, 500-700 receiving yards, 4-6 receiving touchdowns

5. Frank Gore – San Francisco (26)

Over the past three years, Gore has proven to fantasy football owners that he can clearly carry the load at running back, even though he has no offensive support around him in San Francisco. With this in mind, and the fact that Gore is entering the prime of his career at age 26 for the 2009 season, a Pro-Bowl and career year could be in store for Gore in 2009.

2008 Stats: 1,036 rushing yards, 6 rushing touchdowns, 373 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns

2009 Projections: 1,400 rushing yards, 8 rushing touchdowns, 500 receiving yards, 4-6 receiving touchdowns

6. LaDainian Tomlinson – San Diego (30)

After a ‘down’ year that included 1,110 rushing yards, 426 receiving yards, 12 touchdowns, 0 lost fumbles, and just 292 rushing attempts, I would be ecstatic to snag Tomlinson at the back end of any fantasy football draft this year. At age 30, many fantasy football owners will likely pass over the so-called “over-the-hill” Tomlinson for other younger and unproven running backs. However I won’t be one of those owners.

2008 Stats: 1,110 rushing yards, 11 rushing touchdowns, 426 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown

2009 Projections: 1,300 rushing yards, 12-14 rushing touchdowns, 500-600 receiving yards, 2-6 receiving touchdowns

7. Steven Jackson – St. Louis (26)

Since Jackson’s monster year in 2006 which resulted in 1,528 rushing yards, 806 receiving yards, and 16 touchdowns, fantasy football teams have been thoroughly disappointed with his production over the past two seasons. However entering the prime of his career at age 26 for the 2009 season, I am still a believer that Jackson can return to elite fantasy football running back status.

2008 Stats: 1,042 rushing yards, 7 rushing touchdowns, 379 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown

2009 Projections: 1,300 rushing yards, 8 rushing touchdowns, 300-500 receiving yards, 2-4 receiving touchdowns

8. DeAngelo Williams – Carolina (26) BUST

I know Williams had a career year last season, but can you honestly expect DeAngelo to produce anywhere near those types of stats again in 2009? In my mind, he will be lucky to reach just half of those stats this season. Entering the 2009 season, I think Williams is extremely highly overvalued, as many fantasy football rankings have him listed as a top 5 overall fantasy football running back.

2008 Stats: 1,515 rushing yards, 18 rushing touchdowns, 121 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns

2009 Projections: 900-1,100 rushing yards, 8-10 rushing touchdowns, 200 receiving yards, 2 receiving touchdowns

9. Brian Westbrook – Philadelphia (30)

At age 30 for the 2009 season, Westbrook isn’t exactly old, but he sure isn’t young anymore either. After an injury riddled 2008 campaign, and undergoing ankle surgery in the beginning of June, as well as the addition of rookie running back LeSean McCoy, Westbrook’s fantasy football status could fall dramatically from now until the start of the regular season. Beware on drafting Westbrook too early if you have an early season draft.

2008 Stats: 936 rushing yards, 9 rushing touchdowns, 402 receiving yards, 5 receiving touchdowns

2009 Projections: 800-1,200 rushing yards, 6-8 rushing touchdowns, 300-600 receiving yards, 4-6 receiving touchdowns

10. Steve Slaton – Houston (23)

As long as Slaton can stay healthy and the Texans don’t force him to carry the ball too many times to the point where he gets worn down, Slaton should continue his dominance into the 2009 season. In my mind, Slaton is a better pick than fellow second year running back Chris Johnson, however Johnson will likely get drafted before Slaton in numerous fantasy football drafts this year. Slaton is a younger mini-version of Brian Westbrook in terms of fantasy football potential.

2008 Stats: 1,282 rushing yards, 9 rushing touchdowns, 377 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown

2009 Projections: 1,100-1,300 rushing yards, 8-10 rushing touchdowns, 400-600 receiving yards, 4-6 receiving touchdowns

11. Chris Johnson – Tennessee (24)

12. Marion Barber – Dallas (26) BREAKOUT

13. Brandon Jacobs – New York Giants (27)

14. Clinton Portis – Washington (28)

15. Ronnie Brown – Miami (27)

16. Ryan Grant – Green Bay (26) BREAKOUT

17. Kevin Smith – Detroit (22) BREAKOUT

18. Pierre Thomas – New Orleans (24)

19. Marshawn Lynch – Buffalo (23)

20. Darren McFadden – Oakland (22) BREAKOUT

21. Knowshon Moreno – Denver (22)

22. Joseph Addai – Indianapolis (26) BOUNCEBACK

23. LenDale White – Tennessee (24)

24. Chris Wells – Arizona (21)

25. Willie Parker – Pittsburgh (28)

26. Reggie Bush – New Orleans (24)

27. Jonathan Stewart – Carolina (22)

28. Larry Johnson – Kansas City (29) BOUNCEBACK

29. Thomas Jones – New York Jets (31) BUST

30. Felix Jones – Dallas (22)

QUESTIONS???

Not sure about my rankings, sleeper, breakout or bust picks for this upcoming season? Check out my 2008 RB rankings, sleepers, breakouts and busts from last year to see how I did.

Complete Look Back at my 2008 RB Rankings & Predictions.

Quick Preview Look Back at my 2008 Predictions:

Worst Predictions:

My worst prediction was thinking Laurence Maroney could somehow have a breakout year last season, while not giving enough credit to Michael Turner who I thought might struggle in a Falcons offense with a rookie QB. And who knew Thomas Jones still had it in him? Probably more like a last ditch one year running spree to earn a contract before he fizzles out.

#10 = Laurence Maroney – New England Patriots BREAKOUT

So much for a breakout campaign from Maroney in ‘07. How about ‘08?

#16 = Michael Turner – Atlanta Falcons BUST

Lots of potential, but a bad offensive line and no quarterback could mean a long year for Turner.

#30 = Thomas Jones – New York Jets BUST

Best Predictions:

Overall I had a couple of rock solid predictions from last year, most notably tagging Willis McGahee and Reggie Bush as RB busts. While nailing down two rookie RB sleepers in Matt Forte and Chris Johnson. As for Fred Taylor, Ahman Green and Justin Fargas getting the bust tag, I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who got that right.

#14 = Willis McGahee – Baltimore Ravens BUST

Baltimore’s offense just isn’t one you want to rely on to win games.

#22 = Reggie Bush – New Orleans Saints BUST

He just doesn’t produce enough stats to be a fantasy force.

#28 = Matt Forte – Chicago Bears SLEEPER

Something about Chicago Bears running backs scares me….and not in a good way.

#47 = Chris Johnson – Tennessee Titans SLEEPER

Loads of potential, and it shouldn’t take him much to beat out LenDale White for the starting spot.

#31 = Fred Taylor – Jacksonville Jaguars BUST

#35 = Ahman Green – Houston Texans BUST

#39 = Justin Fargas – Oakland Raiders BUST

Fargas is good, but limited opportunities in Oakland will not allow him to shine like he did last year.
